"When my
daughter was eleven years old, I sought to relocate with her and my new
husband to another state. When I filed a Petition to secure permission
from the Court, my ex-husband also filed for custody. I was not represented
by Ms. Phillips at that time, and without justifiable reason,
the Judge
transferred custody of my daughter to her father. I went to Dorothy K.
Phillips to handle an appeal from that Order to a higher court.
While the appeal was pending, we all lived through a nightmare. Claire, who had been an Honors student, not only failed in school but also ran away from home on several occasions. It was as if she had lost her will to succeed in life. In six months after the Trial Court's Order, the Appellate Court reversed the trial Judge and permitted me to relocate with my husband and Claire. Custody was restored to me and we promptly moved. There are no words to express my gratitude to the lawyer who gave me my daughter and my life back. —G.C.
"Both my ex-husband and I are professionals. We practiced together for many years and built our medical practice from the ground. We had three children together and after fifteen years of marriage, everything started to go wrong. When I finally filed for divorce, my husband was so angry that he was determined to fight me every step of the way. I am not a confrontational person. Had it not been for my attorney, Dee Phillips, I do not think that I could have stood up to him. However, due to her belief that she must represent every client zealously, I was able to withstand battles for custody of the children; child support; spousal support; distribution of marital property; and others. When the divorce was finally over, I had received significant marital assets, final alimony, and generous child support as well as an award of counsel fees. I cannot thank Dee Phillips enough." — J.P.S.
"I am a professional ball player. Although I am now married, I had a child out of wedlock and the mother of that child saw an opportunity for a windfall. I was more than willing to do right by the child, but didn't feel I owed a financial obligation to the mother. Dee Phillips worked out a reasonable support package for the child and was able to satisfy the Court, although not the mother, that setting up a trust account for the child's college would secure the child's future. The mother did not like that result because it was a sure way for the money to go to the child, and not to her. I am very grateful to my attorney for reaching a fair result for my child and me." — A.M.
"My
ex-wife became involved with
another man. Represented by Dorothy K. Phillips, I filed for divorce and
custody of two children. My kids live with me, (their Mother has partial
custody). I am in the marital home. I pay her no alimony and she pays child
support. My lawyer is the greatest!" — B.R.C., M.D.
"I am a junior at an Ivy League College. My aunt raised me from birth to age 12 when she filed to terminate my mother's rights and to adopt me. To my horror - my mother appeared at the hearing - she wanted my aunt to "buy" me. Dorothy K. Phillips was my aunt's attorney who tried the matter. I was horribly frightened. Ms. Phillips terminated my mother's rights; my aunt adopted me and I have had a great life. I write to Ms. Phillips every Christmas. She literally saved my life." — A.E.
